The Perfect Place for a Renaissance Date – Nitehawk Cinema

When we think of lost arts in this country, an elegant evening of dinner theater is at the top of our list. What’s not to love? A full dinner spread arriving straight to your oversized, comfortable theater chair while you watch a newly released blockbuster or beloved classic flick… sounds like a pretty ideal Friday night to us. But thanks in large part to pesky no-liquor-in-theater laws – recently overturned, thanks Cuomo! – these theaters have become an endangered species.

Delightfully, though, New Yorkers can still indulge in this alternative to dining by candlelight (dining by blue movie screen light is totally just as romantic), thanks to Brooklyn’s Nitehawk Cinema.  This great venue was founded in 2011 and offers that classic, cozy dinner-and-a-movie combo that we’ve so been yearning for. Kick back and enjoy a masterpiece of film creativity, write down your orders (and your date’s orders if you’re the doting type) on a piece of paper, place those orders in the handy display stand on your inter-seat table and voila – items like a glass of Pinot and savory truffle mac and cheese, delivered silently in minutes.

Even better, Nitehawk offers nightly rental options, allowing guests to choose the film, take over one of their spacious theaters to fill with their friends, and pay a prix fixe, per-head price for bites, bevvies and entertainment. It’s better than that birthday spin class you were debating forcing your entire social network to sign up for, and you’ll be much more popular for it, that we can promise.
